This is I think the first decent zoo found in Philippines. With a slogan : Celebrating Life, it is indeed a good place to visit to be refresh and celebrate life with nature. It is located in Montalban, Rizal and can easily be found even when you get there via public transportation.

How to get there:

From Cubao farmers, look for FX taxi terminal situated in the right side of Farmers Plaza just infront EDSA, with signboard “Montalban”. Tell the driver to drop you off at Eastwood Greenview Subdivision (trust me, they all knew where it is, even the barkers knew). From there, take a trike/tricycle from the entrance of the subdivision where you were drop off to take you to Avilon Zoo (landmark is Total Gas Station). Just be ready for the dirty, uncemented, muddy road going to Avilon Zoo.
Fees:
Php 300/pax for adults
Php 200 for children 3 – 1/2 feet and below
Php 350 tour guide (optional, but you can find your way in your own)

It was a sunny Sunday when we visited Avilon Zoo. It was the first time my daughter came to visit a zoo, she was so excited to see live animals which she often sees only in tv. In the entrance, you will be offered for a tour guide since the zoo is quiet wide and not yet properly set with maps and directional guides but I recommend to do it your own tour since you can still find your way and have some adventure in touring around. There is a big lagoon upon coming in the zoo wherein the restaurant is also situated. Nothing fancy for the foods in the only restaurant inside the zoo and equally price as other restaurants do. There are no decent restaurants though outside.

Avilon Zoo schedule:
Weekdays: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Weekends & Holidays: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

As expected since it is a zoo, a lot of animals around. White tigers, lion. Jaguar, huge uranggutan which is very lazy..hehe…But most rummage animals are missing like; giraffe, elephants and zebra. Hippopotamus swamp area was present but we don’t see the hippo itself. And unlike, well established zoos’ like Singapore Zoo, they don’t have maps available but they provided a guide map on how to get there.

As of this writing the zoo has so much to improve still but it is already doing and constructing some areas for more improvement and probably can accommodate giant animals. Something to look forward to.
